Uganda has so many birding destinations with over 1,061 bird species registered in the country. Birds spotting destinations in Uganda are numerous and you cannot exhaust but am giving you a list of the famous birding destinations in Uganda.

  1. Semliki National Park.

    Semliki National Park provides great birding experiences in Uganda. The park has exceptional watching points in Ntandi, Sempaya, and the River Kirumia area. This is a great place to watch water birds. Some of the birds common here are the Yellow-throated Nicator, the Great Blue and Ross’s Turaco, the White-crested Hornbill, the Piping Hornbill, the Red-billed Dwarf Hornbill, Shoebill Stork among others.Semliki National Park.Where to go birding in Uganda ?

  2. The Queen Elizabeth National Park.

    The Queen Elizabeth National Park boasts of over 600 bird species which is one of the great concentrations of birds in a small area. The park has 54 raptor species, water birds and migratory birds. Some of these birds species are the African Broadbill, the Bar-tailed Godwit, the Black-rumped Buttonquail, the Pink-backed Pelican, the Papyrus Canary, the White-tailed Lark, the African Skimmer, the Shoebill, the Chapin’s Flycatcher, the Marital Eagle, the White-winged Warbler and the lesser and greater Flamingo among many others.Where to go birding in Uganda ?Queen Elizabeth National Park

  3. Lake Mburo National Park.

    This park gives a perfect view of the birds in the areas of Miriti and Warukiri, the waysides. Birds Species in this park are the Grey-crowned Crane, the Bare-faced Go-away bird, the Common Scimitarbill, the Bateleur, , the White-winged Tit and Finfoot, the Ross’s Turaco, the Rufous-bellied Heron, the White-headed barbet, the Coqui Francolin, the Brown Parrot, the Brown-chested Lapwing, the Red-faced Barbet, the Nubian Woodpecker ,the Emerald-spotted Wood-Dove, the Green Wood-hoopoe, the Black-bellied Bustard, the Long-tailed Cisticola, the Red-headed Lovebird.Where to go birding in Uganda ?Lake Mburo National Park.

  4. The Murchison Falls National Park.

    This park is home to the Shoebill if you would love to see them. Some of the birds that can be seen here are the Warblers, the Malachite Kingfishers, the Cuckoos, the Red-throated and Swallow-tailed Bee-eaters, the Crombecs, the Grey Heron, Stilts, Geese and Plovers, the Shrikes, the Hamerkop, the Hornbills, the Francolin, the usual Ducks.   5. Lutembe Bay.

    Lutembe bay is Along the Shores of Lake Victoria and is famous for Birding in Uganda. It is home to millions of all kinds of Palearctic migrant and Indigenous birds. With more than 200 bird species and of these twenty-eight are migratory. Some of the birds that can be seen here are the African Pygmy Kingfisher, the Holub’s Golden weaver among those said to be endangered, the Sooty Chat, the Tropical Boubou, the African Green Pigeon, the Lead-colored Flycatcher, the Brown-backed Scrub robins, the Whiskered Tern, the Road-billed among others.Where to go birding in Uganda Lutembe Bay.

  6. Mabamba Island.

  7. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

    The park has 350 species of birds thereof which 14 of them have no record elsewhere in the country which include the Handsome Francolin, the African Wood Owl, the Bar-tailed Trogon, the Rwenzori Nightjar, the Black Bee-eater,the Dwarf Honeyguide,, the Western Green Tinkerbird, the African Green Broadbill, the Grey Cuckoo-shrike, the Fine-banded Woodpecker,the White-bellied Robin-chat, the Yellow-streaked Greenbul, the Archer’s Robin-chat and and the Red-throated Alethe to mention but a few.Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Where to go birding in Uganda

  8. Kibale National Park.


    Kibale National Park has 139 species of birds species like Yellow-billed Barbet, the Brown-backed Scrub robin, the White-spotted Flufftail, the Black and White Shrike Flycatcher, the Brown-throated Wattle-eye, the Superb Sunbird, the Hairy-breasted Barbet, the Black-crowned Waxbill, the Grey-winged Robin-chat, the Brown-crowned Tchagra, the Yellow-spotted Barbet, the Western Nicator, the White-tailed Ant thrush, the White-breasted Negrofinch, the Bocage’s Bush-shrike and the Black among others.   9. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

    This park is famously for Gorilla tracking but is also rich in over 180 species of birds like Stripe-breasted Tit, Cinnamon Bracken Warbler, Brown Woodland Warbler, Kivu Ground thrush, Brown-crowned Tchagra, White-starred Robin, Greater double collared, Banded Prinia, Scarlet-tufted sunbirds, Rwenzori Batis, Black-headed Waxbill,Archer’s Robin-chat, Western Green Tinkerbird, Olive Pigeon, Streaky Seed-eater, Blue-headed Sunbird, Dusky Turtle Dove, Cape Robin and the beautiful Rwenzori Turaco among others.
