LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK UGANDA
Lake Mburo national park is located in western Uganda between the towns of Masaka and Mbarara covering an area size of 370km² west of Uganda’s capital Kampala and 4 hours away, the park is rich in impalas, Elands and large herds of Buffalo and Zebras and the park is rich in diversity of animals and plant species and the mammal species recorded in the national park are 6 and The most common mammals in the park are ; buffaloes, hyenas, impalas, zebras, Topis, road antelopes, jackals and Eland.
The park has beautiful scenery with swamps, rolling hills giving it a great scenic view. The nocturnal game drives in the park offer memorable adventures to see animal creatures that feed at night like lions, porcupines and bush babies.
This national park is smallest park in Uganda has rocky outcrops, open wooded savannah forest, dry hillside, bush thickets, lakes and swamps that attract different kind of animals that use the different places as their bet habitats.
Lake Mburo has five lakes that is habitat for Water Birds, crocodiles, hippos, and the sitatungas Antelopes that are the papyrus swamps dwellers and the yellow papyrus ganalex among others.
The National park has great budget lodging facilities at the rwonyo park headquarters with 3 public campsites a midrange facility lodge called Mantana Luxury tented camp and the luxury Mihingo Lodge.
The boat cruise on Lake Mburo that last for hours gives you a chance to see the Hippopotamuses, crocodiles and birds species like the cormorant, pelicans, the fish eagle, shoebill stork and Black crake among others .
Lake Mburo national park has over 313 bird species registered giving you a great birding adventure in the national park ad some of the notable species include; the rare white winged warbler, the crested francolin, emerald spotted wood Dove, the brown parrot, the common Francolin, barefaced go way bird ,the green wood hoopoe, the black billed barbet, the blue napped mouse bird, the trilling cisticola, Nubian woodpecker and the African grey hornbill among others .
Species common around the Rwonyo camp include; the African watted lover Rufous naped, Coqui francolin, red necked spur fowl, temminck’s coueser, yellow throated long claw and the southern Red Bishop among others.
The lakes fish species are mainly 8 but the major ones are Tilapia, mud fish, lung fish and Haplochromes you can engage in a fishing trip on the lake shores on the fishing shades given in the national park .
