The Mabira forest is located is one of the great Tropical forests in Uganda approximately 56km from uganda’s capital city Kampala on the Kampala Jinja high way covering 300km2 of land gazzetted in 1932 as a forest reserve .
Mabira forets is rich in fauna with 218 butterfly species registered in the forest, 97 moths’ species in the forest, 23 small mammal species like the Blue monkey and the golden monkeys among others.
Mabira forest has a lot flora with 312 tree species like the endangered Cordia Milllenii, the Warbhugia Ugandenesis, Mililia Exclesa amoung others.
Mabira forest is also rich in Bird species totaling 315 like the Nahan’s Francolin, the forest wood hoope, cassin Hawk Eagle, the purple throated cuckoo, the shinning blue king fisher, the red headed blue bill, the tit hylia, the black bellied seed cracker, and many more
