This 1 day Ziwa Rhino sanctuary safari tour is an opportunity to visit the Rhino sanctuary in Nakasongola district the only place you can see the rhinos in Uganda other then the Entebbe zoo. The sanctuary was opened up to bread rhinos for reintroduction in the wild in the future. Uganda rhinos got extinct in the wild in the 1980’s after extensive poaching and wars in the country that ran on for years.
The Ziwa rhino sanctuary is now home to over 23 southern white rhinos offering great Rhino tracking safaris, nature walks, Night walks adventures and the sanctuary offers Bird watching opportunities many birds species and the pre historic shoebill cannot be missed in the sanctuary . Other bird’s species in the sanctuary are Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Blue spotted dove, African Broadbill, African Black Crake, Booted eagle; Broad billed Roller, Bronze Manikin, African Blue Flycatcher, African Black-headed Oriole, Brown-backed Scrub Robin among others
Other animals you will see in the sanctuary include the Kobs, hippos, warthogs, monkeys, waterbucks.

We leave Kampala early in the morning at 7:00 and drive north of Kampala through the Kampala Arua Highway a journey that last about 3 hours with a stopover at Luweero town to purchase fruits like pineapples; Uganda has the best pineapples and bananas you will ever eat we later proceed to Nakasongola district as you enjoy the Uganda rural life and the pastoralists graze their animals.
On arrival at Ziwa rhino sanctuary you will be briefed on the rhino tracking etiquette before you embark on the rhino tracking excursion for 2 hours returning for lunch before you take on the afternoon session.

After the guided Rhino trekking in the expansive sanctuary we take a canoe ride in search of the prehistoric shoebill stork in the marshes and other birds’ species.
